// 01 · SITUATION & MARKET ENVIRONMENT

Aviculture marketplaces were trapped in 1990s spam boards and unverified forums.

Serious aviculturists, conservationists, and licensed breeders manage rare, high-value bloodlines requiring rigorous health documentation, genetic lineage, and federal transfer compliance. Yet for over two decades, the primary online trading channels were chaotic message boards, unmoderated Craigslist clones, and fragmented Facebook groups prone to fraud.

Avian Trader was formed to create the authoritative national standard: a clean, high-trust exchange combining biological accuracy with transparent breeder credentials.

// 02 · BUSINESS CONSTRAINT & TRUST DEFICIT

Unstructured classifications and incomplete seller records made buyer due diligence difficult.

// CONSTRAINT A

Taxonomic Chaos

Sellers used colloquial, misspelled bird names (“Green Cheek,” “Pyrrhura Molinae,” “Pineapple Conure”), making search indexing impossible and burying rare genetic mutations.

// CONSTRAINT B

Incomplete Breeder Records

The marketplace needed consistent fields for licensing, banding documentation, testing status, and location before buyers initiated contact.

// 03 & 04 · DIAGNOSIS & PLATFORM STRATEGY

Engineer a field-guide taxonomy system backed by a visible provenance ledger.

We structured the platform like a biological field journal: species records follow scientific order, family, and genus, while breeder review states sit alongside supporting banding and testing documentation.

// PILLAR 01

Species Taxonomy

Hierarchical scientific classification indexing waterfowl, softbills, and psittacines.

// PILLAR 02

Provenance Ledger

Visible verification badges for state-licensed aviaries and closed-band records.

// PILLAR 03

Faceted Search

Faceted querying by mutation, age, sex, and geographic radius without page reloads.

// 05 · NATURALIST DESIGN SYSTEM & TOKENS

Scholarly archival aesthetic designed for biological precision.

The visual palette uses natural parchment creams (`#EBE8DF`) and forest graphites (`#171815`) anchored by botanical sage order badges and specimen tan filter controls.
